Liu Zhihua, former vice-mayor of the Beijing municipal government, went on trial yesterday for corruption involving more than 6 million yuan ($880,000) in Hengshui court, Hebei province, Caijing magazine's website reported.
Liu, responsible for construction, sports, subway construction, and the property market in Beijing, was sacked in June, 2007. His mistress, Wang Jianrui, will go on trial today in the same court also on corruption charges.
Tainted drug
The injection of a drug, which killed three people in Yunnan province on Oct 6, was infected with bacteria, the Ministry of Health and the State Food and Drugs Administration said yesterday.
Wandashan Pharmaceuticals Co Ltd in Heilongjiang province has been told to cease production while further investigations are carried out.
